COMMON ISSUES & SERVICES
ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY
This is a minimally invasive procedure done under general anaesthesia to remove blocks or treat problems in the sinus. During the procedure, a thin, rigid tube with a light and camera is inserted through the nostril. Your doctor will use specialised instruments to rectify the issue, be it a deviated septum, nasal polyps, membrane swelling, etc.
ADENOTONSILLECTOMY & TONSILLECTOMY
In certain situations, a patient may need to remove the tonsils, adenoid glands or both in order to prevent discomfort to the patient. This is usually done if the involved structures become swollen and enlarged, or chronically infected. Surgeries are done under general anaesthesia and patients usually return home on the same day.
THYROPLASTY
This is a surgical treatment done to change the position of the voice box to improve the voice or ability to cough. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia, during which a small incision is made in the neck and voice box to place an implant. During the surgery, the patient is woken and made to speak in order to fine-tune the voice. Patients go home the day after the surgery
SALIVARY GLAND SURGERIES
Salivary gland surgeries may be required if there are blocks in the ducts bringing saliva from the gland to the mouth, if there are abnormal growths in these glands or if the patient is suffering from excessive saliva secretion. The surgery is done though an incision below the jaw and requires special expertise since several important nerves are located near these glands.
TRACHEAL RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY
This procedure is done to widen the trachea in order to help the patient breathe better. The reconstruction procedure involves inserting a small piece of cartilage into the narrowed section of the windpipe to make it wider. The goal of the procedure is to create a safe, stable airway that allows you to breathe without further assistance.
MICRO EAR SURGERY
Such procedures are done for issues such as hearing loss, persistent ear infections, perforated ear drums, congenital defects, tumours, etc. Interventions use specialised equipment and training since the ear structure is small, with poor visibility. Surgeries are done after comprehensive diagnostics to identify the underlying issue.
SLEEP APNOEA INTERVENTIONS
This is a condition in which throat muscles intermittently relax during sleep, blocking the airway. The most noticeable symptom of this is snoring. Your doctor may suggest lifestyle changes and weight loss to address the condition. In certain cases, the patient may need to use a CPAP machine through the night, when asleep.
MICROLARYNGOSCOPY
This is a surgical procedure that allows a provider to view your vocal cords with a microscope to identify any anomalies. During the procedure, your doctor may remove any abnormal growths on the vocal folds or correct any movement disorders of the voice box. This may also be done to widen the aperture of the larynx or of the trachea.
THYROIDECTOMY
This is done to remove all or part of the thyroid gland to remove a goitre, nodules, or treat conditions such as hyperthyroidism or thyroid cancer. This is a minimally invasive procedure, done through an incision on the neck or by accessing the thyroid gland through the mouth. Patients are discharged the next day and given thyroid replacement therapies.
FOREIGN BODY REMOVAL
In certain instances, foreign bodies get jammed in the ear, nose, or throat passageways. Most such bodies can be removed by a skilled physician with minimal complications. Your doctor may perform an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis, post which they may use forceps, water irrigation, or a suction catheter to remove the object. Rare cases may require surgery.
